The World Series of Poker announced their 10 finalists that are eligible for being inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. Chris Bjorin, Eli Elezra, Humberto Brenes, David Devilfish Ulliott, Chris Moneymaker, Max Pescatori, Matt Savage, Bruno Fitoussi, and Carlos Mortensen are the finalists that are eligible for induction.
After the vetting and public nomination process was done, three new candidates were able to join- Elezra, Moneymaker, and Bruno. They join the list with six finalists that are returning and one nominee that is returning-Brenes.
The living 25 Hall of Famers and a 20-person media panel will select the finalists from this point forward. On October 26th in the city of Las Vegas inside of the Binion’s Gambling Finalists, no more than two finalists will be inducted. Before the date of October 7th, ballots will be sent to the voters at the end of this month and then they will return to the WSOP Governing Council.
What Will The Vote Be Based On- Based on what has been reported by the WSOP, the votes will be based on a variety of criteria. The main ones are that the player has had to play poker against the top competition, at least 40 years old during the time of nomination, played for high stakes, played well on a consistent basis, gained the respect of their peers, was able to stand the test of time, and played a major role in the poker industry growing with positive results from those who are non-players.
Where Will The Inductees Be Announced At- The announcement for the inductees will be announced at Binion’s Gambling Hall’s Longhorn Room October 26th, in the city of Las Vegas. Inductees for the Hall of Fame will also be receiving recognition at the November Nine Event located at the Penn & Teller Theater. That is located at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino.
When Was The World Series of Poker Hall of Fame Started?- The World Series of Poker Hall of Fame was first established in the year of 1979. Even though virtual, it recognizes the most influential players and contributors to the poker industry. In the year of 2004, the Poker Hall of Fame was obtained with the World Series of Poker by Harrah’s Entertainment. Since its start, it has honored 50 Hall of Famers.
What Makes Being Inducted Into the World Series of Poker Hall of Fame So Special?- Basically being inducted into the World Series of Poker Hall of Fame is like being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but for poker. By being inducted, poker inductees can receive even more endorsements and become acknowledged more. This is basically a way to become more respected and to be considered as one of the greatest. Pretty much all poker players hope that they will be able to be inducted into the World Series of Poker Hall of Fame, just like how most music artists hope to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Just even being a finalist to get inducted is very hard. It is nowhere near close to being easy. Only a select few out of the many poker players there are get this type of opportunity. It is an opportunity that is a big huge accomplishment. This type of accomplishment cannot be taken away from.
Many players work so hard to not only win, but to also be known as one of the greatest. They do this through practicing a lot and studying the game of poker. Also, they study the great poker players that came before them. In a lot of cases, the hard work they put in leads to them making a big accomplishment like this.
As those who read this can see, not just any poker player receives this type of milestone. Those who get selected this year will reach an accomplishment that many others have not reached/will reach. For the ones that are selected, best believe that they will never forget about this and would want to keep telling their grandchildren and great grandchildren about it. That is how special it is.
The game of poker itself can be hard, but however once practiced and understood a lot, the game can become simpler. Even if the game becomes simpler, there are many different other factors to take in, in order to be considered as one of the best ever. When being inducted into the World Series of Poker Hall of Fame, players realize how much their hard work has paid off. All of the time and effort they put into learning as much as possible about the game and mastering it as much as possible is what makes this huge accomplishment not only be a dream, but also a reality for them.
